What is the coolest architectural feature on campus? Why?
The North Court Arch. This archway has such a collegiate gravitas and serves in many ways as the symbol of Westhampton College. When I walk through it, I feel connected to University of Richmond’s history as an institution committed to the education of women.
What is one piece of advice you’d give students for the college search/application process?
Take some risks to figure out how you enjoy spending your time. This is where you begin articulating your story and thinking about what kind of story you want to tell in your application. Think about how you want to influence your school community. How do you want to grow? How do you want to challenge yourself or even your peers? Answering these questions will take you beyond the formula of a "perfect" college resume. Find activities that engage, challenge and excite you, so when it comes time to fill out your application, you can't wait to tell a college admission office how that list came to be.
Let’s talk about RVA. What do you like about living here? What are your favorite things to do in the city? What should visitors be sure to check out?
I always describe Richmond as quirky and quaint with a ton of character. It is a fun city to live in because the people are so different and you can find a little bit of everything while you are here. I love to run down Monument Avenue, visit Maymont Park, and hang out at the VMFA. I would highly recommend checking out "Chloe" in the VMFA gardens. You will know her when you see her...
Do you have a favorite spot on campus?
My favorite building is the Modlin Center for the Arts because it looks like the staircases could change at any minute.
Tell us about a favorite class, professor, or mentor.
Dr. Mari Lee Mifsud was my advisor and invited me to participate in an independent study for a semester on the feminine voice in history writing. I never intended to participate in academic research, let alone in rhetorical studies, but after reviewing a paper I wrote, she suggested I take this on. The professors at Richmond are excellent in this way, creating a space to explore and uncover the hidden parts of your academic and personal growth. They take the time to identify your potential.
Who’s the most impressive UR alum you know? Why do they impress you?
Honestly, my group of close friends from Richmond continue to impress me every day. I am humbled to be in the company of a Fulbright Scholar, lawyers, a cybersecurity policy analyst, and a small business owner (to name a few of their accomplishments). Whenever we get together, I see the impact of our experience at Richmond and why I am proud to be a Spider.
